I never use to paint any antiques. I always felt as though it would be ruining the piece. The dark oaks and stains mean the piece is original and old. I have changed my mind. Lately I really appreciate an antique piece of furniture with a beautiful paint job. Rich colors, bright colors, muted tones. The milk/chalk paints have inspired me to update some antiques, make them into a statement piece.
The chair below is an antique that I purchased a few years ago. My kids never liked it, it is a typical Arts & Crafts era chair. Classic. I painted it a pale gray blue (above) and re-stained the inset seat. I added some upholstery tacks and a down filled pillow. Now it is a fun inviting chair. No longer what the kids called "The electric chair".
